Well,
Thanks to all who responded to my plight for a MIDI adapter problem. I
believe that in the end the problem was that I had ultrajoy running
in my autoexec.bat file. Apparantly that causes some kind of conflict
because when I REM'd it out, everything worked wonderfully.
Thanks again to all who send me suggestions.

Here are some things to try. I am not totally familiar with Cubase, so I
can't be totally specific. When you record, does Cubase record what you are
playing? If so, then you know that the port and the synth are setup
correctly. If not, make sure that you have the interface set as GUS MIDI port
and not GUS MIDI synth. Make sure that the track that you are recording on is
the same that the track the M1 is sending on. If everything seems to be
recordingly properly, make sure that the M1 is in omni mode (I don't have my
M1 in front of me so I don't recall specifically where you change that mode)
and play the file. It should play regardless of what channel you recorded it
on. Another idea is to try setting up some channel as the GUS MIDI synth and
set the M1 to transmit on the same channel. If what you play comes out
through the GUS then you know that it's getting the data, but for some reason
Cubase is not storing it. Sorry if you already tried this stuff, but these
are the first few basic things that need to be checked out. Another
possibility is entering a few notes into Cubase in step time and trying to
send them. See if those are transmitted out of the port. Let me know if you
have any more questions. later...

Do you have your GUS joystick port disabled? Do you have access to
someone else's GUS/MIDI adaptor that you can swap with yours to test your
setup?

G'day Nemo,
The demo version of Musicator GS has "limited" score printing - it can print
the first page of either a particular part or of the whole arrangement. I
suppose by printing a page, then deleting it from your .MID file, printing a
page etc., you could run off the whole score eventually. Sounds painful, but
what do you expect for free, right?
The full release of Cakewalk Pro 2.0 has score printing - I guess you already
know that from your previous post.
You can download the demo of Musicator from (I think) wuarchive; it's been
about 12 months since I did so, so I can't be sure that's where I got it from.

It's been reviewed!
"The best damn piece of music emailed to me all evening! I've never seen
playmidi look so much like a Christmas tree in my whole life ..."
It's made history!
"What happened to the person who sent me SMEAR.MID? Was this file ever
released? (Perhaps this was the first unreleased collaborative GUS file?)"
It's got technique!
"Secret to screaming keyboard guitar solos: hit lots of notes quickly!
Well, that's more or less it. Actually that one is an absolutely straight
solo: not a single edit in it. The basic idea is if there's enough else
going on your ears will kind of fit the guitar in amongst it all even
if the notes are a bit weird and the timing slops around."

Subject: Using differenet Banks with patchmgr
Hi everybody!
I have installed setup-disks 2.06a, and read about using different Banks
in the ultrasnd.ini.
My ultrasnd.ini is as well as in in the epas.utoronto//submit, i've defined
[Melodic Bank 2]
But my patchmanager(the logo says vers. 1.07) doesn't handle different
banks.
So my question, is it possible to load different patch-setups (Banks)
instead of the GM-setup with the patchmgr.exe ? (the ultrasnd.ini date
02.06.1993 says its possible)
Which version of patchmgr.exe has this feature ? Does it exist?
Is there any MIDI-software which can handle the banks?
Are there any suggestions, FAQ, or somthing else?
Many thanks for taking time solving my problem!
